Holographic Video Projection
Inspired by Cancun Spring Break 2017 performance of Tupac Shakur, I replicate a technique called ‘Pepper Ghost’ to create a holographic video projection. Video projection is view typically display on walls or buildings to showcase an artist work but I want to further the traditional medium by showcasing it on pixel glass to make an illusion of hologram floating above an iPad display. The art piece comment on capitalism and conformity. We convert our valuable time in exchange for paper currency to purchase latest gadget but not thinking twice about how it could effect the trade off for our consumption of products and services. The name ‘Easy Payments’ hint on commercial prey on consumer’s debt of optional 5 easy payments of an ‘x amount dollars’, you could purchase your way into freedom or pleasure. The unicorn mask present as how we see ourselves as unique individual but fall short to consumption of product and services. The irony is our consumption questions our uniqueness due to a greater invisible power of the illusion of money can bring. We are all tied to this common thread of exchange time with money. Everything in this video is made from scratch with the help of YouTube and Indestructible.
Critical Interactivity
Where does the line blur between the good and bad for digital technology usage? For instance, social media connect us yet forget to have real connection. Alexa make our life convenient but is it worth trading conveniency for freedom? In contrast, thanks to Uber we don’t have to get a DUI. Netflix and Spotify give us abundance of entertainment so we wouldn’t lose our mind. Double edge sword. Two side of the story depend on the narrator. My stance is that you just have to trust the good in humanity to use this tool for good. I started with a dark gloomy theme mocking Tinder, but Hinder, as in a way to stop development of individual’s, however the satire occur once you copy and paste to make the website speak. An interactive web page piece that require the participant to copy and paste into the text box or write something then press ‘read to me’ in order for the browser to return an output. This interaction project built off HTML/CSS and Javascript.
Final Interactivity
Replicate Google search of ‘Thanos Gauntlet’ to make the page
disappear but instead I made Mona Lisa disappear. I want to push
myself further with my learning of graphic rendering and interactive
art so I taught myself how to incorporate multiple libraries to create
this art piece. This was my first time using Threejs, WebGL, GSAP, Canvas,
Javascript, CSS Animation, Chancejs, and Conical Math Equation in codes to
achieve all of this.
